Photojournalism

Photo recruitment

One of the difficulties we faced in the beginning of the year was a lack of photographers who could help us cover events and help us achieve our goal of more consistent social media coverage. I took initiative and started reaching out to people I knew who had taken photos in the past or were interested in photography to see if they could sign up for photographing events for Eastside.

These are both texts I sent to photographers at my high school to try to recruit them to take photos for Eastside.

Photo organization

After speaking to other award-winning EICs on how to have a more organized photography system, they told me they have a document where photographers can sign up for events. Thus, I worked with my photo editor to build a sign-up document monthly of community, school and other events that would be relevant for our audience to see.

This was the message I sent to try to work with my photo editor to get a photo document created for Eastside.

This is one of the monthly photo sign up documents that Eastside used.

Photojournalism in social media

One of my goals for Eastside this year was to incorporate more high-quality photography in our social media. I began taking photos for our social media this year to try to help reach this goal. To the left are some examples of my photojournalistic work in social media.

Personal photojournalism examples

Because we had a lack of photojournalists this year, I began taking photos at school events like dances and open houses. Over the past few months, I have aimed to take more candid shots and build my photojournalism expertise.
